Books are collected, sorted and processed for shipping to Africa.  Although most of the books are donated, books have to be purchased to fill in any unfinished category.

Many children in Ugandan schools can’t afford the basic school supplies for a proper education.  Imagine trying to take notes and understand a lesson when you don’t have a pencil or paper to write on.

Books are the Beginning provides scholarships to teachers in Uganda to help further their education.

BATB is passionate about literacy here in America.  Studies show there is a 30 million word gap between those kindergarten children who grew up with books in their home and those that did not.
